Bike Trailin' it....

Too nice a day to waste! We packed up a small lunch and headed out on our bikes. It takes about 5 minutes to ride from our place, out the path behind us to the trailhead. Nanaimo has done a stellar job on constructing these trails over lots of the city. This particular bike trail follows the new island highway 19 for about 20 kms, from one end to the other. We rode the southern part today, about 11 kms one way......

Definitely nice to have a path like this right behind where you live..

Part of the Parkway Trail is also part of the TransCanada Trail...

 

This old miners cottage is thought to be one of the offices of the Jingle Pot Mine...

 

The trail is fantastic. At times you are near enough the highway to see the cars and at other times you can heardly hear them and certainly cannot see them. Just beautiful forested areas. We stopped at the Collier Dam area and had a nice little picnic lunch and checked out the map of the trails. Amazing...

Doug is much better than I at getting up these hills without a stop!!

 

One of the few sections where you are right by the highway. It is no problem as there is

lots of space and a berm area in between...

 

 

 

 

 

Remember in Mexico, all those pictures of Doug reading the maps....not much has changed!

He is still in charge of research and direction of travel!!

 

 

We really enjoyed our day today. We love doing things like this. We rode about 23 kms round trip so our legs feel a bit wobbly tonight and we will probably have to fall out of the bed in the morning, but we did it!! Next goal is to ride the other way, northbound.....
