Melaque-Last Day (up to Feb 24)

Our neighbours are from Saskatchewan and although they are CFL Roughrider fans we try to not hold it against them. Of course, we are die-hard BC Lion supporters.We have shared many "happy-hours" with them and even caught a meal or two out on the town. they have been most generous with giving us ice each night so we are FOREVER in their debt (right Jack?). It is so fun meeting nice people like these when you travel. They are the kind of people that we will plan to go and see one day.....we'll bring our own ice.

Rode our bikes into town again (yes, in the dark with our snazzy new lights) to the town square. Love hanging out here to watch all the families enjoy themselves.

We went over to the "fancy" hotel in Barra de Navidad for lunch with Jack and Janice (thanks Janice for thinking of this little excursion). Super fun. You take a little panga across the harbour (like two minutes) and then they drop you off at the gorgeous hotel and grounds. It's nice to see how the "other half" lives.

Last night and we spent it having dinner at our favourite street taco stand. Pachita and Pedro. Just love these two people.

Until next year....

Time has come, finally, for us to leave tomorow. We are heading about two hours further south to a small area called La Placita and a campground we have heard a lot about called Rancho Buganvilias (https://ranchob.com) if anyone wants to take a look. We are really looking forward to the change of scenery. 

Like I said on the previous post we are finding that when travelling in the van, a month is too long in one place. The whole reason for having the van is to "explore" and sitting still for a month does not do that.

We have enjoyed our time in San Patricio/Melaque and seeing so many familiar and new places and people.

Melaque Musings (Feb 18-20)

Just a random collection of pictures and thoughts. Oh no...now you are all in trouble. My thoughts, when they are directed, are weird enough let alone "random" ones. 

We have definitely over-stayed our time here in this area, Melaque.(Everyone calls this Melaque but it is actually three different communities: Melaque, San Patricio and Obregon) We really do like it but one of the things I believe we have learned is that a month in one place is a bit too long for us. We will be departing here on Sat Feb 25th (more on that later in the week). 

Back to the randomness that is me....

We walked from Melaque to Barra de Navidad on the beach. it takes about 30 minutes but is an enjoyable walk.

We have never been lucky enough to see a live 

sea turtle but this beauty had washed up on shore.

On a different day, we were just walking up a street on our way to the market when Doug spied a beautiful mural in someone's courtyard. We both peaked in the gate to take a look and to our surprise the owner, Philip, was sitting in a chair paiting it. He quickly invited us in. he is doing a mural that he calls a documentary of how the banana is grown. He filled us with information that he has researched over the past year. As an artist he is capturing it on the mural in his courtyard. Fantastic work.

At the end of the RV park is a bar. Made almost completely out of driftwood. In Canadian standards this would never fly but again, here in Mexico, you just make it work and we really love that about this country. Doesn't hurt that the weather is almost always beautiful and warm. although I am not sure what will happen in the next hurricane (which will come eventually). Just rebuild it I suppose. It is huge and goes on forever. I imagine that for a server you would really earn your money, walking in the sand all day long.

Feb 17 - Eight is great

Our beautiful little guy, Jasper Zane turned 8 years old today. I don't think there is a person who is as full of zest as Jasper.

You sometimes cannot get a direct answer from him. There is always this little twinkle in his eye when you ask him a question and you are never really sure how he will answer it. I hope he never changes....

He is still my seaglass hunting partner extraordinaire. He never tires of it. While we have been away in Mexico I was certain that a few of the beaches would yield some great pieces. But no. Maybe because he wasn't with me with his keen eye? At any rate I felt like I was letting him down.

He has some pretty epic dance moves and is really starting to get into reading, skateboarding and mountain biking with Dad and August. Jasper is that kid in class who is always ready to help someone else. 

He is now an "official" big brother with Holden's arrival last year. He wears that badge proudly. His very best friend in the whole world is his big brother August. They are never far apart. I also hope that never changes.
