Well, another week under our belts here in the land of sunshine...

Really, just some musings and observations about life here. Nothing earth shattering or anything.

Just around the corner is a gentleman who does  engravings for headstones. This one was done like a book. All hand done. No machines here.

I brought down some silver pieces that needed repairing. This is "my guy". He did a beautiful job. 

This particular day he had just got back from having a molar pulled. Still, his little shop was open.

Every Wednesday there is the big Melaque market. It literally goes for blocks and blocks and is almost entirely covered in various tarps and coverings to protect from the sun. Vendors of all types. If you can't find it here you probably don't need it!! Visitors and residents alike all shop here.

It was Doug's Birthday on January 22nd so we had a lovely day of "partying". I even gave him the day off from doing any planning!

Next request he had was a beach walk down to the main part of town. Sauntering, (which we do quite well, thank you) it takes us about 30 minutes...

Followed by a dip in the pool...

Then a sunset dinner back in town at Margarita's

He wouldn't do a birthday horseback ride!

There was even entertainment

He said it was the "perfect birthday"

were churros in the jardin. 

Now, back to regular life around town. We can't party forever, right??

Not sure? Maybe a meeting was called.

Looked out the bedroom window one morning to see the coconut retrival guys were here. This particular tree is about 3 stories high. Our room is on the 2nd floor and he went way above us. 

Firstly, he is climbing up the tree in bare feet. He does have some protection for his forearms. 

He did smile and wave but then I made sure I wasn't in his line of vision. Didn't want to distract him.

It's quite the thing to see. Dangerous work.

Anyone who followed us on our last driving trip with Eurii to Mexico in 2023 (reachable on the sidebar of this little blog) might remember that we stayed at Laguna del Tule. It's about half a kilometer around the corner from Villa Xochipilli at the other end of the lagoon. 

We met some amazing new people here. Jack and Janice, Mark & Norma and some dear, old friends from past travels. Barb & Sal, Paula and Jerry. It really was so much fun. Maybe we will get to drive down someday again. Time will tell.

Jan 11-19

Not sure how to title these enteries so we will just try using the date.

It seems to take me a while to get in the "routine" of living in a different space. Even when we traveled with the van. I would spend the first 1-2 weeks thinking "What the $#^%# have I done??" Then it would all settle into a pattern. I am just "sort of" getting there now. Just being honest here...

Anyway, really enjoying the walking, that's for sure. Something we don't do enough of at home (which will change when we get back). Ahemmm...

Big fishing day. They were pulling these in every few minutes. I think they are called "Jack fish"

we are used to.

But that's why we are here. 

To see life differently.

This particular day we walked from our place in Obregon to Barra de Navidad and back. It is quite a few kilometers on the beach but we really enjoyed it. Took about one hr, just sauntering along. I imagine one could say that Barra is maybe slightly more "polished" than Melaque but we like Melaque better.

Doug badly wants to ride in one!

We noticed a sign up for a skim board competition at Laguna del Tulle on Saturday so we headed over there to watch some great talent.

Doug likes to "help" with the laundry once in awhile 

That is not our laundry!

I'm not sure that the lovely Meraz thinks he's

"helping" that much! Costs about $7.50 Cdn each week. Washed, dried, folded neatly, bagged.

Discovered this bakery today. Our friends, Bill and Carol, that we met in Mazatlan, taught us that these little bakeries are often right in someone's home. It seems strange to walk right in but we did. There are the goodies! We will go back another day to fill up!

Almost done!  Are you still with me?? 

Low key day today. Did some grocery shopping. Doug found a shoe repair guy for his broken flip flop and I checked in with my jewellery repair guy. He has, so far, fixed a ring, earrings. Now he's working on my Momma's ring from Ireland and my bracelet. It's always good to have your special team here in Melaque!

Then, shock of shocks....it RAINED!! Good grief. We haven't seen rain since we got here. We did read that Melaque gets approximtely one day of rain per year in January! Complete with thunder and lightning. Doug got some great footage. I'll try and upload it next blog.

You know we have a low key day when we move our chairs to watch the storm! This was today.

Always have to have pictures of my boys nearby.
