Running Away with Doug and Nancy: Jan 28 to Feb 2 (Mazatlan to Melaque)

Well, here I am again. Lots to catch up on but I won't put too many pictures in (ha ha) because it will cause a meltdown on my computer and in my brain.

Sat Jan 28 - Just spent the day doing laundry and getting groceries for our departure on Sunday. We were invited to our new friend's Bonny and Derek's RV spot down by the Riu Hotel for a hot dog BBQ. Thanks guys! We even managed to drink some wine and still get ourselves home safely down the new bike path that Mazatlan put in. Super cool.

Sun Jan 29 - We left bright and early and headed for La Penita. It is a six hour drive. I drove for about half (the easy portion, duh...) and Doug did the twisty portion. This turned out to be a bit of a disappointment as the park we were heading to wasn't as we remembered. Enough said. There were multiple problems, enough so that we decided we were not staying for a week and instead left the next morning but I did take a few good pictures.

Mon Jan 30 - Off we went, first thing in the morning. Didn't say much to the new owners. Don't like to burn bridges. Just a different vibe. And, yes, once again Doug drew the short straw for driving as it is quite challenging and he is just SO much better at it than I.

Lagoon behind us that really does house a resident crocodile or two. they likely don't come down this way (here's hoping) but if you don't hear from us for a few days, maybe someone could check!

so there is a constant breeze and the waves crash all day and night.

Tues Jan 31 - Best part of coming here is that we have Barb & Sal (who ran the campground in Valle de Juarez that we loved on one side of us and Paula & Jerry, our Mexico/Nova Scotia besties at another campground just a five minutes bike ride away. So, so happy to be back with them even for this week. Otherwise, if we had stayed in La Penita we would not have connected here with either of these wonderful friends. Things happen for a reason, right?

Breakfast at Rosita's....it did not disappoint.

Then it was off to our neighbourhood "Costco", the Super Hawaii market in town. Best liquor selection in all the the land! Our friend's Bob and Danna, who came here last time with us in 2020 will remember this place well.

This place is a quirky mix of hotel, swimming pool and RV park. The hotel is a little like something you might find in Greece.

Feb 1 - Tianguis day (market day) Love this time. You will notice that we don't see a lot of people in the pictures, that is because my Google Pixel 6 can remove people from the pictures if I like (keep that in mind everyone...). I like to try and be mindful of people's privacy as much as I can.

Thurs Feb 2 - Just did a ride around town today. Had to get some cash and there are only two back machines in town and they are both always busy and they don't always like your ATM card so it's a bit of a crap shoot. doug stood in this line-up and then we had to go to the other machine where we had success.

Sal, Jerry and some friends went fishing off-shore (like 15 miles off-shore). We were lucky enough to have been gifted some fresh Dorado fillets. Dinner tonight!
