Where to start.....

What a time we are living in. There just isn't much to say that hasn't already been said. Doug and I hope everyone is keeping healthy, safe and staying HOME.

We did end up going to Melaque for a shortened Mexico vacation. We arrived on March 7th and by March 11th it became very apparent that we should never have come. Covid took care of the rest of our "plans". We traveled with our good friends, Bob & Danna and since the tickets were actually booked in Bob's name, he had to be the one to get them changed with West Jet.  This took him quite a few hours over a few days. We were supposed to leave there on March 21st but the earliest we could get out was March 19th. Really, the entire last week was spent in consultation with family, friends, the news reports just trying to wrap our heads around the events that were unfolding. It completely changed the trip for everyone, just like it has changed the whole world.

So here are a few snippets of our time. It wasn't a total loss. We got to see some of the town we love. Got to see some of the people there that we know. What you don't see was the growing anxiety with what was going on.

Since we flew into Puerto Vallarta we stayed at
this little hotel right in "Old Town PV".

The interior courtyard is very pretty

Doug & Bob celebrate our arrival in Puerto Vallarta

On Saturday March 7th, it was a 4 hour bus ride from Puerto Vallarta to Melaque/San Patricio. We really have always enjoyed our time in this little town. Last time we were here was with Euri in 2016. We stayed here at Villa Xochopilli and Irma, the owner. She, at that time, owned the campground next door. She has since sold this campground

Villa Xochopilli

There is a very large lagoon behind the villa.
This empties to the ocean which is just off to the right side of the picture.

Our first meal at Rosita's Loncheria!
One of our favourite places here. Doug could hardly wait
for his first breakfast and it didn't disappoint!!

Rosa has made many, many changes to her restaurant. She used to be across the street with a basic "food trailer" and a few tables. Now she has expanded to this property. She can also do private functions. Good for her!!

The very hard working Rosita and her brother Osvaldo
who helps out at her restaurant.
She has done a beautiful job (along with help from family members)
changing this plain lot into her restaurant. Fresh herbs growing for her kitchen.

Muy tranquilo.....

Melaque sunset

The rest of the pictures are just a small sampling of our wanderings. Again, it was with very mixed feelings that we continued but we really had no other choice.

You know these two....

...for Rudy.

...for Gus & Jasper.

Admit it, you were waiting for some version
of my famous "foot shots", right?

Another hard working beach vendor....

Evening market time....

Danna & Bob

The "flan lady" at the square. We have sampled her baking before
and everything is amazing!!

Then came our trip back to Puerto Vallarta on Thursday, March 19th. I think we were all a little anxious about all the "enclosed spaces" we were about to embark on (4 hours on the bus to start). Everything turned out fine. The PV airport was EXTREMELY busy with SO many people all doing what we were, getting back home. Trust me, there was no social distancing here. We have seen pictures from the next few days after we left and there wasn't a spare inch to stand in so we were really lucky.

Line-up to get into security, complete with infared
thermal scanning for temperatures.

Our whip home....loading our luggage.

A welcome sight, C-A-N-A-D-A !!!

Our traditional welcome home from our kids is generally done with toilet paper but YIKES, you can't do that right now! "HI" spelled out in bubbly water cans on the floor.

Phew. Wine is served on our deck.
Now our 14 day self-isolation begins....

This is how we visit now, across the lane!
Josh, Kathy, Gus & Jasper (they were here many times)

Bradur, Shannon & Ivy (Josh & Kathy's neighbours)
came by for a laneway visit as well.

Cindy & Bruce! Pass the wine....

Doug's brother, Don & Diana....Sheesh, this lane hasn't
ever seen this much action before!!

So after 15 days in isolation, this is as close as we are allowed. If a person
doesn't think this is HARD, to not hug these two crazy dudes, they are wrong!!
But, we do as instructed and keep our distance!

More tequila shots with the big kids....still no hugs.

Teagan & Rudy are safe in the Kootenay's (with Shawn).

The dandelions are out. It seems that my
favourite flower isn't afraid so neither am I....

So, there we are. Well, none of us is quite sure "where" that is. I have always read that it takes a village to raise a child but I really think it also takes a village to get through these challenging times, together but apart.

We cannot begin to thank everyone enough for their love, friendship and support through this. We had 14 days in self-isolation, not even to take our garbage out (thanks Heather from upstairs). Josh & Kathy for all the groceries for 14 days (and there were plenty). We simply could not have gotten through this without all the "laneway" visits. There were lots of cold and rainy days and still "the people came". We love you all!!

Peace out everyone - PLEASE stay well and healthy!!

Five Years Old, Really??

I am not sure how the time has passed so fast but our beautiful little Jasper is 5 years old. Really? I know......

He shines inside and out and is gloriously free of inhibition. There doesn't seem to be many things on this earth he doesn't like especially if it involves anything with his favourite person, big brother Gus. Oh, he loves his Momma and Dad but Gus, that's his main dude. From waking in the morning to his little long-haired blond head on the pillow at night, his zest for life is contagious. Gloriously free, that's Jasper, truly. From our "National Kiwi dance in the living room day" (....don't worry Grandma, in two years it is National Avocado Dance day") to his new found love of crafts, life will NEVER be dull and uneventful with Jasper by your side. There has never been another who has loved his stuffies as much as he. Everyone has a name, they all get to celebrate their birthdays (....thanks to Grandma Mel for making countless birthday cakes for countless stuffies). Most of them are grey cats, still others have managed to steal a little piece of his heart, Big Hand the sloth, Perry the platypus, Hank the octopus just to name a few.

A beautiful heart and soul. Your kindness abounds and it is completely infectious to those around you. You are my dandelion hunter, rock gatherer, shell and sea glass finder extraordinaire and my never, ever leave an unattended worm on the sidewalk to face certain peril partner.

Jasper, Grandpa and I hope you ALWAYS stay just like this. We love you SO much.

 HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEAUTIFUL BOY!!

Peace out friends.

This quote never gets old for me.........especially when it comes to our grandsons.

Almost the end of 2019

Since I just did my Christmas post, I don't have a lot to add but I did see the following on Facebook. I will be going out to get my jar. I can't even give credit where credit is due because I have no idea who thought of this but I think it's brilliant......

Talk to you "next year"......

Peace friends.....

Merry Christmas

We are always surprised when this time of year seems to come around so fast, right? Here we are again.

Our month started with a great, early Tamas (my maiden name) family dinner on Dec 7th. It is hard to get everyone together at anytime of the year but especially at this time of year. Schedules are busy, roads aren't great for travel over mountain passes. We have people in all areas of BC. From the Lower Mainland, Sunshine coast, Vancouver Island, the Okanagan, the Kootenays....even some from Sweden!! We got a great turnout but our Vancouver Island, Swedish nor our Kootenay families could come. Maybe next year.....

Some of us you know. Some you don't.
Too many to explain.....Most important my Mom Nadyne in the middle-front!!

Over the years when our kids were little we would gather up extra family and walk down at Crescent Beach in South Surrey on Christmas Eve. It was always so much fun. Some years we met up with scuba divers who would dive off the pier. They would have glow sticks underwater so they could see each other. It was so much fun to watch. We haven't seen them in a long time. I often wonder how long they carried on their tradition. Maybe we will see them again. Now we are trying we restore this tradition with our kids and grandkids.

You may notice that "some" of the family are still wearing shorts. That would be Josh!! Since he was little he would choose shorts over any other clothing!!!

This blog would be no where if it weren't for my famous foot shots.....

They also collect money for a local charity.

Gus & Jasper ready for Santa.....

Our Kootenay family couldn't be here for Christmas. Too hard to get over those passes and when you run your own business like Shawn does, it's just too hard to be away. Here they are:

Rudy ready for Santa....

Dec 27th found us out for a walk to the beach in White Rock. Our little slice of paradise, only not as warm a beach as we would like. Still, it's mild and no s- - w. It is beautiful there, as you can see.

Looking east towards Washington state's Mt Baker....

So, that's it for us. We will now begin our "real" countdown to retiring and beginning our travels in our new motorhome which we introduced to you a while back. Last day of work will be Dec 18th (shhhh....don't tell our bosses yet!).

We wish you all a Happy New Year. We wish you a year filled with love, light, good health and adventures of epic quality. Spend time with ones you love, make new friends, make someone smile!

Peace friends!

How can it be 7 Years?

......7 years since we were gloriously blessed with Gus' arrival. It really is hard to believe that this amazing little person has been in our lives for 7 years.

He has the most beautiful soul I can imagine. He is kind, caring, considerate. He loves his Momma, Dad and family but he especially loves his little brother Jasper. They are the best of friends. He has an inquisitive mind, loves his crafts and loves reading. He is fast becoming an expert on dinosaurs. We are routinely "schooled" in the history of dinosaurs. Names, sizes, attributes. Honestly, how does a 7 year old remember this stuff??? He is the kind of little dude that will always share a lick of his ice cream cone, a drink of his milk shake, draw you in his picture, hold your hand. As he grows up, the holding of my hand is the thing that I fear the most about losing......I like to tease him that when he is in Grade 12 he likely won't hold my hand anymore (unless it's to keep ME safe....) but he assures me that he will always want to hold my hand. You heard it here first! I asked him once what would happen when I couldn't pick him up anymore to hug him and he told me "don't worry Grandma, I will stand on a chair". I think that time has almost arrived......

We love you so much Gus. Always stay true to yourself....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY OUR BEAUTIFUL BOY....

Well, where have we been??

Broken promises, that's for sure!!

Let's begin somewhere back near Jasper's birthday in February which is when I last posted.

As you all know, we are not travelling this year and we have decided to work ONE MORE YEAR. Can you hear my groaning from where ever you are???? Yes, this means we will work until the end of 2020. And that's it.......

So, we have made some changes. As you all know when you met us we had Euri, our trusty and loved 1993 VW Westfalia Eurovan. Euri drove us safely to and from Mexico 3 times. Brought us all around the perimeter of the great USA, through to Newfoundland and all the wonderful Atlantic provinces and then all the way back to our beloved West Coast. We loved him but upon our return to work in 2016 we decided that in order to return on more extensive trips to our favourite places we would have to sell him. It was a very hard decision and many tears were shed (by me.....).

Fun times in Las Jaibas in Mazatlan 2016

Then we decided to try a little trailer for our "Canada Camping time" . We knew we wouldn't go too far but we fixed up this little 1990 17 foot Bigfoot and towed it with our 2014 Ford Flex.
Whistler BC June 2019

So that brings us to the present........

We are now planning on full timing life at the end of 2020. How this will really play out we aren't sure but we have faith that everything will work out. So, without further ado, let me introduce........

2004 Trail Lite

He is 29.5 feet, bumper to bumper but the body is 28 feet. Resplendent with a Chev 8.1 litre engine with 45,000 miles on him. There are two small slides. One for the bed and one for the sofa. Best of all, the oven is big enough for my turkey at Thanksgiving! We are pretty excited (well, we would be even more excited if we were leaving at the end of THIS year but that's okay).

Alrighty then, now you all know what we know. We are hoping anyone out there still reads this blog and that, more importantly, you are all doing well.

I am "this close" to figuring out how to transfer my pictures from my Google Pixel 2 phone to my computer so I can resize them and get them on the blog. All the little boys are doing fantastic and I will get some picture of them up soon.

Cheers friends!
