Phoenix AZ (Day 5)

Today we headed out to find the infamous "Hole-in-the-Rock" hill in Papago Park in Phoenix AZ. It is a natural geological formation made from sandstone. Pretty cool spot to come and take a look at.

You can see on these nearby hills that the holes are already forming!!
Just a few hundred years and they should have worked their way through!!

Roadrunners at the Desert Botanical Garden parking lot.....
Nothing like seeing Doug's favourite bird "in the wilds" of a parking lot, huh?!

Bridge leading into the gardens....

These bright green cacti are actually made of glass....

And that was the end of the botanical gardens. It was a hefty $22 each to get in and, to be honest, none of us are that much into "gardens" that we needed to drop that kind of coin. It was basically just back and around the corner to the Hole-in-the-Rock area. This was much more interesting and fun to clamour around on.

Looking through "the hole" towards Phoenix.

We will call these "holes in the rocks in training"

Okay, so you can only take SO many pictures of a rock....we had to have some fun!!

Right, so after this it was off to Old Town Scottsdale. We all really enjoyed this area and walked about for quite some time. Included was a ride on the for Scottsdale Free Trolley.

Lots of bronze statues.....

Foot shot.....you knew it had to come, sooner or later!!

You know Super Bowl must be near when
the Good Year blimp shows up!!

We stumbled upon this young gentleman glass blower. Extremely talented
young guy and what an amazing process to watch!!

Believe it or not, this ended up being a long, purple
coloured vase with a criss-cross pattern.

And that ended our full day of exploring. We had a great time and by the time we got back to the house, it was (gasp) raining!!!!

Super fun day. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Peace....

Phoenix AZ (Day 4)

Temperatures here haven't been too high, but compared to Canada, they have been a welcome respite. Although we did hear from some family members that it was "nearly" as warm there! We are definitely liking the sunshine!!

We are really enjoying the pace (snail-like) we have established, enjoying breakfast on the patio in the sunshine!!

In the afternoon we drive about 1 hour from here to some friends of Don & Diana's that live in Maricopa. They had invited us for dinner. It was a fun evening and although Doug and I had only met them once, we were all treated like old friends. Thanks Burnie & Richard!!

There is a rather large mascot here at the house, "Donkey". Since we wanted him to share in the festivities, we decided that he should be brought along on some travels!!

Got my travelling shades on....

Let's get this show on the road!!!

Burnie, Richard and granddaughter Tristen and Donkey!

So, another great evening with good food and wine and friends. We loved it!! Thanks again Burnie and Richard.

Monday we are actually doing some touring around. First stop will be the Hole in the Rock park. Should be fun!! Wanna come along??

Peace....

Thought for the Day: Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tip toe if you must. But take the step.

Phoenix AZ (Day 3)

Theme of the vacation is don't rush around!!  We are definitely fulfilling this ideal....

After lounging (yes, again) we headed out to a flea market that we had heard about. It definitely did not disappoint.

If you can't find it here it doesn't exist!!!

Susann - here is a pair of boots for you, huh?!!

After this it was home time (5 pm) and that means food and wine time!! Pretty much wrapped it up with a nice bbq and a movie.

Big bbq doesn't work so we picked up a little hibachi.
Nothing like the smell of charcoal....love it!!

G'night everyone!!

Peace....

Phoenix AZ (Day 2)

So not much got done today. Since we did not arrive here until 11 pm last night and then proceeded to sit up until 1:30 am, we were a tad slow getting slow this morning.

After breakfast out (no groceries in the house, naturally!) we made our way to the local Wal-Mart for a grocery run. Always interesting with 4 people walking through together!! We had fun as always!!

After groceries were put away, the guys went to work cleaning up the patio table, chairs and barbeque in the back yard. They were covered with dust and grime. Now, they look perfectly new.....

The Beglaw clean-up crew, hard at work!!

Apparently, this is the house mascot.

Our new "whip"

....and we are from the mighty state of Texas now!!!

Ahhh.....at last a clean table!!

Well, after a few margaritas, some wine and a good dinner, we are about ready to call it a night.

Not sure what we will get to tomorrow but I am sure we will tour somewhere. Watch out!!

Peace....
