Santa Elena, Atotonilco de Alto (March 2-4)

It was a long but easy enough drive (...she says as Doug did all the driving - his choice).

We saw a few interesting things.

Crop dusting the bananas. Yes, he was THAT close!

Volcan de Colima

Traveling along the 54D northbound we went through a huge dry lagoon bed, Laguna de Sayula. Milies and miles totally flat. I wonder when or if it will actually become a "lagoon". Maybe in the wet season.

Loved this sign.

This is a huge agave growing region,
along with other agriculture.

We stopped for lunch just outside of Colima at a gas station and then got groceries in Ocotlan. We arrivewd at Charly's Restaurant and RV park about 4 PM. Denise, the RV park manager was waiting for us with open arms.

The road in to the park

You can see our route from Ranco B, circled on the
bottom of the map on the coast.

It was lovely to get here and get settled. Here is a little walk about of the park. Beautiful. Restaurant and lovely grounds. Several big kitchens, pool, on and on. RV park is rustic, a simple parking lot but has everything you need. I actually think we got one of the nicest spots!

Eurii ramped up in the back to level

We pulled straight in so we could take advantage of the cacti garden that belongs to Charly's next door neighbour. University students come here to study all the varieties.

Time for a tour of the rv park and restaurant property. When Charly bought the property in the ninety's it was just a huge lot. What a lot of vision one has to have to create what is now here. Incredible.

Huge kitchen where they make bread for the restaurant
(and they sell it to us lucky RV people too)

One of the beautiful walkways into the restaurant

Pizza oven.
Door beside is the wine cellar.

Pool sits right beside the restaurant

One of the kitchens right in the resaurant, but there is another....

One of their signature tequilas, grown right in this area

This leads up to another sitting area of the restaurant
and the main kitchen

Every walkway around the restaurant property
is done like this. Exquisite

Anyway, that's probably enough for one post. I don't want you all to get bored. We did a lovely walk around the little town. We'll do that in the next post.

A few glitchy problems with the spacing today. Between the fussy, hot computer and the flucuating internet this is the best we got!

Peace out friends!

Melaque to La Placita (Feb 25-March 1)

We arrived at Rancho B on Saturday Feb 25th and absolutely L-O-V-E it! Sandy, the owner, calls it the "last outpost" and we agree with him. It is just rustic enough for us. He has water, sewer and electric. A small bathroom and shower building. Washer is available, lines to hang dry clothes, beautiful palapa with lots of tables and chairs, plus the four friendly dogs who patrol the place. No, hold it, the cat controls the place, Spot. He's really in charge (sorry Sandy).

We spent a very enjoyable 5 days, walking down to the ocean, chilling out, doing nothing (and you know how good we are at that!).

Here's a collection of pictures:

About 11 kms from Rancho B and yes, that
is the beach we will enjoy!

Miles of beach with no one on it.

Active turtle area

Palm grove that you walk through to get to the beach.
From Eurii to the beach is about 4 minutes

We were lucky enough to spy one turtle come out of the water. She did not lay eggs. Just turned around and went back. This is called a "false crawl". It was magnificent to see such a beautiful creature.
Shell was about 3 feet long.

Morning coffee spot behind Eurii. This will do.

August, Jasper, Rudy & Holden

If there is enough interest,, Sandy and partner will make
homemade pizzas. Good prices too.

Evenings in the palapa.
That corner of the building is part of their private kitchen.

View of the main building and sitting area

On Monday we took off for a small tour of La Placita and then 20 minutes down the road (south of Rancho B) to La Ticla, surfing area.

Christmas tree in the plaza made of large green pop bottles

Our new buddies, Brenda and Martin

You may recognize this picture. Pretty close to my new header shot.

Fridge problem. Martin was consult with Doug and
they figured things out.

Cheers to a cold fridge!

One more night beach walk and one more foot shot!

Best thing about traveling is meeting new friends that feel like they are old friends by the time you part. See you two soon!

So now we are off to Charly's Restaurant and RV in Santa Elena close by town is Atotonilco el Alto (you probably won't find Santa Elena on the map). We estimate that the drive will be about 8 hrs, including any stops. Should be interesting.

Off we go............

Peace out friends!
