Walk and a Stag

Funny title, huh?

Went to our favourite place for our walk today. Super funny to see some guys dragging an upcoming "groom" around for his stag party. Not sure what condition this guy will be in by the end of the day but my guess is not very good!! The overalls were from the Department of Corrections, maybe the handcuffs as well. Not sure where the hood on his head came from....Yup, I think he is in for it!!

His two "buddies" went on ahead, presumably to get everything
ready for his next set of obstacles...

By the time this summer is over, I will likely have
shown you pretty much every step of this great park!!

So, in a few spots along the path were these balloons. Pretty sure they had
something to do with that stag. Hope that poor guy can swim!!

See the balloon on the close stump and on the far away tree branch on the left?

And here is his bike, with the brakes tapped off so they
can't be used!! Hope his bride is waiting at the Emergency Room!!

Apparently, he is going to be "getting away" from his friends!!

Gee, hope that guy has fun today!! Hope his friends are still getting invited to his wedding!! I did not hear the search and rescue helicopter so I guess he made it out alright!!

After that, it was just some patio time and making inukshuks out of the gravel under our feet...what a person will do when bored!!

Hey, what happened to the wine????

Hope you are all having a great weekend!!

Cheers friends!!

Market Friday

It was strange to wake up and NOT see the sun, wasn't it?

Today, as promised, we went downtown to the local market. I really like these local markets. Everyone should check out their own areas and see if these are running. Always great people with lots of neat things they have made and loads of their own, home-grown, local produce, canning and baking. Love it! It's just too bad that today was the one day with a bit of rain. Oh well.....

This is the island...gotta have tie-dyed stuff!!

Yum yum!!

Some nice entertainment....

Nanaimo is known as the Harbour City....

Just a few days ago, the Snowbirds were zooming all over this harbour!!

I know you were all missing the foot shots!!

We saw this card today at the market. I thought it was very appropriate as I very often have some miscellaneous shell or stone in a purse, pocket, glove box or somewhere else. On our first trip to Mexico, Doug told me that I had hit the "maximum allowable" amount of shells, etc. I had them squirreled away in a shoe box in the little closet in the van in zip lock bags with the names of where they came from written on them. This year I did a bit better, probably because we weren't near the beach so much. I did, however, come home with a nice little bag of sea glass!!

I hope our kids always remember going to the beach where we would collect rocks, shells, sand and sticks. It's part of what we did and I hope they will always do the same. I can hardly wait until we can take our little Gus to do the same!!!

Have a great long weekend everyone - travel safe and enjoy your time with family and friends!!

Cheers friends!!

Bike Ride around Nanaimo

Hope everyone is having a great Thursday!!

Today we headed out for a bike ride on the terrific bike path here in Nanaimo. Last summer, we did the southern route and our return trip it was about 22 kms long!! This time, we headed out on the northern loop and it was about 13 kms back to the house. Nanaimo has done a great job on these bike paths. More municipalities should follow suit!!

Looks like a l-o-n-g bike path!!!

Winds a long way around....

Even tunnels that take you under the highway!!

See, they are quite a way off the highway, which makes a really nice ride.
NO fear of cars and trucks near you...

After a lot of pedalling, what do we come across but Black Bear Pub!!!
Good thing we were strong and carried on to eat our picnic lunch!!!

...but not before I got a flat tire and Doug had to fix it at Canadian Tire!!
Normally we have an extra in the bike repair bag but we used the last one in Mexico.
Besides, what are the chances of getting one on this ride???!!! Yup....

 ...apparently quite high!!

So, off we went, tire repaired, to find a lunch spot. We went to the Seabold Trailway. A nice path that overlooks the ocean. Pretty nice to live around this part of town I would think!!

Yes, the pub lunch would have been better, but not cheaper!!

What a great view it was....and great company too!!

Have a great day tomorrow, everyone. We are going to check out the Friday market on Front Street tomorrow!! Of course, I will report that to you on Friday!!

Cheers friends!!
