Mazatlan (Day 2)

We love it here. Not just the San Fernando RV Park, but the city in general. It is one of our (so far) top few picks of places that we could come and rent a place at for a winter.

The day started off with a yummy breakfast prepared by Al & Colleen (a person could get used to this kind of treatment!!) Waffles, bacon and fresh Mexico strawberries. Yes, a waffle maker. Can you believe it? Well, I guess when you have a house as B-I-G as theirs, you have room for such luxuries. Euri just doesn't have the room!!

As good as The Roadhouse in South Surrey!!

After digesting that, it was off to find a kindly pulmonia driver who would take us downtown to the international market.

I don't know why....I just did, that's all.....

Thanks so much!!

The International Market, I think, pretty much takes up a whole city block. It can be a bit overwhelming for sure. The vendors are quite "aggressive". Not in a bad way, but in an "overly-enthusiastic way". I wish I could explain to them that if they just let you browse, you might actually spend more time and maybe more money. But, hey, that's what they are there for. They are making a living......Come on and check it out!!

Josh, these super heroes (and monsters) are for you and Gus.....

A veritable party, waiting for a place to happen, pinatas and candy!!

Yes, something for the more discerning pallet. Remember the picture of those pigs feet in a jar from our first stop in Marysville? Just thinkin'.....gonna need a bigger jar for these ones!!

Remember last year when I took all the pictures of the brooms and tablecloths? Well, I think this year I will concentrate on bolsas....the quintessential Mexican shopping bag. Really, I think Mexican's were the first, true, green shopping bag people!!! These are everywhere!

Like I said, it is quite the thing to see. The sounds, the smells, the people. Pretty interesting and I wouldn't come to Mazatlan without coming here for a visit. It was as good as I remembered!! All around outside the market there are so many stores. You can find shoes, hardware, eyeglasses, anything. This picture, although not great, is for my daughter Teagan and my friend, Danna. They are both wonderful sewers. A fabric store - just for you, girls!!!

The area around the market...

Very crowded and very busy...

After this, we hailed another pulmonia driver to get us back up to the malecon so we could do us some beach walking....and maybe find us some refreshments.

I finally found a way to drink beer, plenty of limes AND a bit of salt...

Yummy fish tacos...

...and the donut man that Doug flagged down...honestly!!!

Gotta love a beach band with a tuba player!!!

Terri C. - look familiar?? Just about 4 hours behind you!!

Is that Doug and Al, looking RIGHT up her dress?!!
How often do you find two statues of Marilyn in a week??

...and here we are!!

Super nice malecon walk!

This is for, guess who? My darling grandson, Gus!! A cafe just for you!!!
How fitting too, a pirate theme!! Remember his pirate patch at Christmas??
(I miss you.......)

Well, we really enjoyed the market, walk, lunch and pulmonia rides, etc. Back at the park, Doug was skyping with his Mom, Helen and sister, Diane. I couldn't resist this photo. Such is the modern world. Showing them on the Skype camera just where Las Glorias was!! Diane couldn't locate it on her map!!

Here is our view....I know, pretty sic, huh??

I mean, really, don't we look pretty small compared to Sunny???

Our very pretty pool tonight

This is where we are sitting, right now as I type this.
Wish you were all here, we could have a party!!

That was the day. Pretty fun. It wasn't too overly hot, a nice 25 degrees C. Slightly overcast so that meant no one got burned today!!

Not sure what tomorrow will bring. Maybe just a hanging around, relaxing day...or not! We will see. Tea is all done so that must mean bedtime!! Thanks for checking in.

Cheers friends!!

Las Glorias to Mazatlan

We really had a nice sleep, listening to the waves pounding. I think, maybe, if there had been wifi available, we just might have stayed the extra day that we had originally planned. I wasn't disappointed to be heading for Mazatlan early. First though, some morning coffee by the beach...

Funny, through all the beautiful corn fields here, up looms what we can only think is a new prison. Seems to cut right at the heart of the area. Not sure what all the residents think.....likely they don't mind as it will supply lots of labour to build and lots of staff to run it.

The area really starts to change as you get within 100 kms or so of Mazatlan...But we were reminded of the hefty tolls this nice road requires. We went through 6 tool booths today and it cost a total of $380 pesos, which is approxmately $30 Cdn. We believe it was well worth it. We arrived in Mazatlan at about 2:30 pm. It was a great driving day!!

Euri feels like he is heading "home"., we have done this road before.
North Mazatlan looms in the distance...

We have arrived at San Fernando RV Park - where we stayed last trip...

Doug and I really like it here. Not even sure why. It is always clean and it is in a great part of town. We love the pool too!! We hope Al & Colleen like it as much as we do....

Last year, Euri was parked in the spot just to the left, where Al is now!!

We got all set up and then it was time for a dip in the pool....

I know, even I got in!!!

Now, relaxing time!!

Danna, notice the lovely tablecloth....

It is N-I-C-E to be here. We are looking forward to exploring a bit, walking on the beach (maybe we will find another big haul of sea glass, thanks to eagle-eyed Doug...) and taking one of the little pulmonias to the big international market!! Should be fun!!

Wanna come along??

Tea is finished and time for bed....

Cheers friends!!

San Carlos to Las Glorias

This was our travel day on Friday. Sorry we did not have wifi when we got to Las Glorias last night so this is a late post.....

We packed up from San Carlos and were on the road early in the morning (oh, that is about 8:30 a.m.) It was a long day's drive. It is a very agricultural type of area. As always, every tope in every small town has people selling things, anything really.

Yes, ANOTHER man selling parrots!!

I love these roadside stands. Everyone is quite enterprising....

Road lunches are not always as interesting as crock pot dinners!!

Definitely farming country

Well, after about 50 kms westbound, off the main highway, we came to what can only be described as an almost deserted town, Las Glorias. It was really kinda sad. Many houses seem to have been built, or partially built only to be abondoned. I suppose the economy and security have played a huge part in this. To be blunt, I did not like it, at all. I don't like the feeling of something being deserted. We went to Mr. Morro Hotel & RV Resort. In it's glory days it was probably amazing. I felt sorry for the owners. There was only one other rig here from Vernon. Those people like the solitude of the place. They had some friends come by and they stayed in the hotel. The owners opened up the restaurant and were happy to cook a nice meal for them. Take a tour with us......

We are only about 100 feet from the beach. The waves were really pounding!

Camp all set up....

Beautiful pool area, but it wasn't heated....

Hotel area

Such cool art on the wall....

A special shrine to someone....

Me and my travelling buddy....

Anyway, we were pretty disappointed. Maybe I felt just sad that such a beautiful place was not being used to it's full potential. Someone said that there are folks who come out on the weekend, but we were out there on a Friday night and there was no one else coming....

Anyway, we will only stay for the one night.

Cheers!!

San Carlos (Day 2)

It was decided that we would stay on for an extra day here. Everyone was wanting to relax so this seems to be a good spot for sure!

First, the day started with me watching Al, doing something. All seems well as there was no discussions about it so I imagine he was just being a diligent motor homer!!

Heading for a walk, with Colleen leading the way!

So cool, using the broken pot bits for the steps!!

Pretty grand entrance for a house!!

House of the Happy Hearts!!

...so nice

I have never seen real cotton growing before!!

Nancy's favourite place!!

More pictures of the office building here at Totonaka...

Sorry, it's a bit dark, but it is something!!

Yummy!!

So, that's that for our day. Just some nice relaxing and walking around. There is a little gift shop right around the corner and surprize, surprize, I found a ring I wanted. I held my ground and did NOT buy it. The gentleman wanted $450 ps, whoa!! Way too much. I offered $300 ps, which I think is MORE than fair. He would only come down to $350 ps and I said "nope". I was rather proud of myself. Those who know me know that I love shiny things!! Oh well, little does he know, we are heading for Mazatlan, land of the many jewellery vendors!!

For those who think you are on "Gus-rations" here is another picture of him!!

Hope you all had a great day!!

Cheers friends!
