First up was the long weekend from Sept 1st to Sept 4th. We gleefully left work on the Friday night and headed up to Golden Ears Provincial park in Maple Ridge. We have been here lots and it always strikes us as to how far away you feel up in these Golden Ears Mountains, just a short drive from Maple Ridge. The weather was picture perfect, as you can see!!
Kathy and her little boys......
I think Jasper really loves his Dad.....
Gus, our biker dude...
Grandpa tracing feet!!
Art time in Grandma & Grandpa's trailer.....
Of course there are ALWAYS camping pancakes
when Grandpa Doug is around.....
Teach them young how to flip 'em!!
Thank goodness for the fire rings. With the fire ban we were
not allowed to have real campfires.
Monday Sept 4th - We continued on with our travels, towards Alberta for a few days to Medicine Hat to visit Doug's family there. Drive was easy out on Hwy 1. Well, I can say it was easy but Doug now does all the driving as I am still not comfortable towing the trailer. (Yes, the van was easy and we split the driving two hours on and two hours off......I suck)
Still SO much smoke in the are due to the forest fires.
We stayed overnight at the Lamplighter Campground in Revelstoke.
It was quite nice for an overnighter or two. Didn't even unhook.....
Tues Sept 5th - We headed out very early (yes, we can do it if we HAVE to!! We never really got out of the smoke until nearly Calgary.
Small old single lane bridge crossing from the
campground side towards Revelstoke.
Proud to always have our National Park Pass
and this is a special one, 150 years!
The Three Sisters Mountains near Banff. I always take a picture of this as
I imagine it to be myself and my two sisters.......
Tues Sept 5th to Thurs Sept 7th - Always fun to go to Medicine Hat and visit with Doug's family there. His Mom is 94 and is doing quite well, thanks in huge part to his sister, Diane and brother Duane and their families. Such great support they give her. She is a delightful lady. One of the neat things about the seniors' complex she lives in is that once a week they have a small band come in for happy hour. Very enjoyable for the residents.
Medicine Hat is the proud owner of the World's Largest Teepee!!
(taken rom the highway....)
Doesn't look too busy but there was quite a
bit of dancing going on out of the picture!!
We'll carry on with the trip on the next post. Make sure you check out Part 2!!
