White Rock BC to Springfield OR (639 kms/397 miles)

......and so, after a lengthy delay - IT BEGINS!!!!!

Well, that took a while, huh?? We felt quite disorganized this year, not sure why. Perhaps because we fell off our southern rotation for the last winter trip and didn't travel. Guess we were just out of step as to how much we had to get ready.....but we are here now!!

We have spent the last few days with all the family and friends, saying our "see ya's later". It's always fun and a bit sad. We really appreciate all the good wishes and "bon voyages" that we get so it makes us realize how lucky we are. Not only to be able to do this but to have such a great support system riding shot-gun with us! Thanks everyone for making us feel very loved.....We are honoured!!

We left White Rock about 7:30 am this morning. It takes roughly 5 minutes to get to the Blaine WA border crossing from our front door. Pretty darn convenient.

Actually, sunset last night.....

Euri, all ready to travel - notice the moon above him??!!

Looking back towards a sleeping White Rock and the pier.....

Looking east, towards Blaine WA.
(Kevin & Ruth - see, sometimes we DO see the sun rise!!)

The lovely Peace Arch at the Canada/USA border

Not too many cars....

So, I am not sure what possessed me to bring 4 rather old Christmas oranges with me in the van (along with 4 BC gala apples) but I did and the border guard happily sent us into the Agricultural Secondary Inspection centre. What a dummy I am. Should have thrown them out. Brain fart!! Anyway, after a brief stint, we were sent on our way with the oranges going into the "destroy" bin. Time lost of about 15 minutes!! Pretty funny!!

Lots of heavy frost on the highway but a beautiful day.....

Our mighty sister city, Seattle, WA

It is a pretty easy drive down the I-5 to the Springfield/Eugene OR area. We arrived at the Best Western at about 4:00 pm. With NO heat in our van via any furnace and likely frozen water lines as it is well below zero, we weren't about to try camping quite yet.

We had a great New Years Eve dinner at a tap house, just across the street and we have now settled in to await 2016. Next stop is the beautiful west coast. We will leave Springfield tomorrow morning and head west on Hwy 126, towards Florence OR at the coast and then we turn south (or drive straight into the Pacific Ocean....). We originally thought we would take the I-5 all the way south, which is quicker, but we have a day or two to use up before we can connect with the insurance peeps in Los Angeles anyway. They seem to have forgotten to send us copies of our Mexico car insurance so we won't be able to reach them until Monday now. One of our favourite highways is always the coast highway 101. We are both looking forward to it. We should get to Eureka CA on Friday night which is about 6-1/2 hours from here. Easy drive.

Nice digs at the Best Western - don't get used to this!!

Lovely drink tonight.....

My favourite drinking buddy.....

Okie dokie, family and friends, that's it in a nutshell for you. We are ON OUR WAY!!! It's been a long time coming.

It was VERY hard to leave our family and especially our little boys behind. There were some tears (by me) but I have slightly recovered now. I did finally get a new camera so just be patient with me (Josh....) while I get used to it. Should be pretty good I hope!!

We wish all our family and friends an amazing, happy and healthy 2016. We are truly blessed to be surrounded by such great people and so much love. Gus is growing in leaps and bounds and has just turned 3 years old (remember when he was born??!!) Our Jasper is 10-1/2 months old now and we are delighted by them both every day. They are the greatest. We are also super happy to announce that our daughter and son-in-law (Teagan & Shawn) are expecting their first baby near the end of May.....Yeehaw!!!! Super excited about that. We can hardly wait - a new cousin for the boys!!!

Signing off for now - our best wishes to you all.......

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Peace....

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Sorry, a tad late but our hearts are in the wish anyway!

We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Hopefully you got to spend it with family, friends or a combination of both!!

We spent the morning with the boys and had a very busy morning there. We loved it. There is nothing better than seeing Christmas through a child's eyes. It's just the best.....

Pardon my camera - I believe Santa will be bringing me a new one.....

Kathy, Josh, Jasper & Gus.....

Photo-bombed by Grandpa!!!!

Later in the day, we headed up to Don & Diana's house to enjoy our Christmas dinner with them. Both our kids and grandkids had plans with the other family sides. We laughingly termed ourselves the "orphans". Thanks to Don & Di for hosting a great evening together.

In every crowd, there is always someone who does
not want to wear their hat properly!!!

Ha ha ha - these are pretty snappy all right!!

Teagan (our daughter) & hubby, Shawn out for a walk on Christmas Day.
They live near Nelson BC. See the beautiful Kootenay Lake behind them?

They are pretty cute......

After this, we just seemed to have a crazy few days. We are "trying" to get ready to leave for our southern trip to Mexico. We are not sure why, but we are not very organized this time. We have delayed our departure date twice now and we are fixing our sights on Dec 31st. We feel confident that we can meet this new date!!

Trying to capitalize on days spent with our boys. Something I have come to realize is that you cannot "bank" that lovin' feeling! Here is the evening's fun....

Pretty proud of the baby sling I made for these little guys.
It's actually the second one I made.

Here is the first one....isn't she a fine looking "Scottish lass"? Jasper likes it!
This fabric slips a bit (that's why the rings are a bit low)
so I will re-do it with something different when we return....

Time to bake one more cake before we leave....love the sprinkle placement!!

Little note about these......

Josh has bought himself a scroll saw. He copied some ornaments that my Auntie Mary  & Uncle Alan bought for our kids when they were about 5 years old!! Josh did the cutting and Kathy did the painting - Pretty amazing, huh?? Hey, I never got one!!!!

Well, that's us. Up to date, in a nutshell. Takeoff day is Thursday, bright and early (while it's still dark!!). We are hoping to get as far as Medford, Oregon. We will see how that goes!!

Hope you will all start tuning in again and travel along with us!! See you in Mexico!!!!!

(Al & Colleen - We will tip some tequila for you this time - next time you tip with us!! See you guys when we get back!!)

Cheers!
