Almonte ON (Day 2-Cont'd)

Hi everyone!! Sorry about the delay. It has been a great few days of non-stop visiting and eating. It has taken me a while to process the information for the blog. Well actually, it has taken me a bit to just to push myself away from the table!!

I was thrilled to have a few more signs made for my birthday. You saw the one from Gus, Josh & Kathy. Well here are few more........

Bruce & Cindy Ewing......

Sharon Jones, Bobbi Jo Semenoff, Ashley Lancz & Lexi Lesson
These are my old work mates/wine gals and I miss them a lot!!

Paula & Jerry Gale

Thanks to Eric Paquette!!

Again, thanks SO much EVERYONE for all the wishes!! Now, Doug says it is time to stop celebrating my birthday!!

Casa Arden In Almonte, Ontario!

Backyard overlooking Mississippi River (Canadian version)

Good old Shadow.....

Doug's cousin, Dale, was good enough to drive us back into Ottawa and act as our tour guide. What a beautiful day!!

The famous Rideau Canal. Can you imagine
ice skating on this in the winter??

Chateau Laurier Hotel in downtown, just down the
street from the Parliament Buildings......

Old train station overlooking the Rideau Canal

Rideau Canal has a series of locks that lead you down to the Ottawa
River. You can bring your boat up or down these locks, which are run by hand!

Hand cranks to open the locks....

I think these two look like they can run those locks.....

The locks leading back up towards the Chateau Laurier....

This walkway leads you down past the locks....

Ottawa River.....

Dale & Nancy.....

Flag on top of the Peace Tower....

Our beautiful Parliament Buildings!!

The Peace Tower.....

Entrance to the Parliament Buildings, through the Peace Tower!!

The East Block.....
The West Block (on the other side of the Parliament) is currently
under restoration. You actually can't even see it under it's weather coverings....

Big Canada Day stage getting set up.....

The library at the back of the Parliament Building. I think lots of
people don't ever see this and it is beautiful.....

Queen Elizabeth....

Our beautiful War Memorial.
Too bad it was closed for renovations....

It is right across the street from Parliament Hill.
We will see it "next time"!!

Behind the Parliament Buildings is this beautiful view of the Ottawa River.
This is Gatineau, QC....

Looking down on the Ottawa River.....

After our nice wander about the Parliament grounds we walked about 4 blocks down to the Byward Market area for lunch...

You gotta advertise anyway you can!!
This guy walked all around with this sign on his back.

 Sidewalk art.....

Hey, we know that place!!!

We had a great day - thanks again to Dale for chauffeuring us around! What was fun is that everywhere we went today was within about a 15 minute walk. So cool to see those Parliament Buildings after seeing them on television for so long. We did not do any tours. Way to nice of a day to spend it inside. Some other day I guess!

After we got home from our day in Ottawa, we headed out to dinner to the Heirloom Café, right in downtown Almonte with Dale, Sue & Chelsea. What a great time!!!!

Peace....

  1. What a great day with two of my favorite people! (We do have to get together more often.) And then we got to celebrate Nancy's birthday at Almonte's own Heirloom Cafe. Thanks Doug for a fabulous meal and great evening of conversation and laughing and catching up.
