Las Cruces (from Jan 22)

We had a great birthday day for Doug yesterday! Thanks for all the great birthday wishes from everyone. I even chauffeured him all around Las Cruces & Mesilla. Come to think of it, maybe that wasn't such a great birthday gift, having your wife drive around with you in the
passenger seat..

Yup, his birthday gift from me.....kidding!!

We decided to first head into the Farmer's Market in Las Cruces....

Not too many vendors on a Wednesday, or this time of the year....

Food trucks - they seem to be everywhere!

I know, the legendary foot shot.....

Love the old buildings....

Yes, it is quite cold here (......in the nights!!)

Downtown is quite nice, but very quiet.....

Seems to be lots of old hamburger restaurants....

After walking around the Farmer's Market we headed into old town Mesilla. Just about 2 miles south of downtown Las Cruces. One of the original settlements in this area.

La Posta Restaurant in Mesilla. Mexican, of course!!

Yes, it does!!!

Basilica of San Albino, north end of the plaza.:
Originally built of adobe in 1855. The church was rebuilt to its present structure in 1906. It became a basilica on November 1, 2008.

After our nice walk around in Mesilla we HAD to have a birthday late lunch at La Posta. It came highly recommended by several people. We enjoyed it but thought it fell just a bit short of the high expectation we had. Guess we were spoiled after all those great meals in Mexico!!

Birthday boy celebrates with his margarita....

Not sure why we got a camel on Doug's drink but we did......

But it was a really neat building and it went on & on.
Many rooms, one after the other.

Last night's sunset....

Fancy cake.....

So, he blew them out....and then they came back on!!!!!

Boy, did we ever laugh because I did not realize that I had bought "trick" candles!!

Guess I should wear my reading glasses!!!

Today, we are staying at the park and enjoying all that is here. We will finish up here in the visitor centre and then go out for a walk or bike ride. If it stays warm enough, we will try and update later today, outside because the centre closes at 4 pm.

Peace...

  1. Oh, such a birthday to remember, Doug. Great photos again you guys. The "Chocolate Fixes Everything" reminded me of a tee shirt I bought in Sedona, AZ one time. We visited a chocolate shop that had tees for sale. Mine was chocolate brown and written across the back was "Death By Chocolate" - the name of the store! I wore that shirt for jogging for years and years!
