Garberville CA to Calistoga CA (165 miles)

We left Garberville this morning at about 9:45 a.m. It continued to be a nice drive down Hwy 101S. We stopped in at the McDonald's in Willitis, about 25 miiles from Garberville to do the Jan 1st post so that took about 1 hr. It certainly didn't take long to leave the redwood forest behind from this point and get into some rolling hills. A bit like the Okanagan area of BC.

Thumbs up to a nice warm temperature!!
Currently at picture time it was 20 C (70 F)
(It looks like I have some kind of creepy skin disease, but I don't!!)

Then, it was just clear sailing to the campground. What an amazing drive into Calistoga from Hwy 101. You come in on CA-29S all through the most amazing wine country. Of course, all the vines are "sleeping" right now but it is still beautiful.

Cool road in....very twisty. Doug loves to drive that kind of road!!
It was about 15 miles in to Calistoga.

...and here we are!!

It is called Calistoga RV Park & Napa County Fairgrounds. Long name......It's quite a nice clean park, as you will see above. Not too exciting but it is super quiet as well. It is also a Passport America park but only from Monday to Thursday. So we got a 50% rate for today ($17.50) and then tomorrow we will have to pay full price ($35.00). A bit of a shame since there are only 16 campers here and about 50-60 sites. Oh well, we know that California is likely to be one of the most expensive places to be. Good thing that we aren't in the state for too long - can't afford it!!

After an early dinner because we didn't have lunch, we walked into town. Very pretty and quite "postcard-like". You can tell there are some "well-heeled" folks that come here to holiday as there are lots of wine tasting rooms, restaurants, gift shops and spas.

Nice walk, about 6 blocks to town past some really pretty houses and B&B's.
Doug googled some of the B&B's and they were WELL over $100 per night!!

A pretty B&B and Conference Centre...

I don't know - some kind of wire art on top of a patio recliner....

Looking downtown along Lincoln Street

Must be wine country.....

Susann, this shop is for you, my favourite shoe lady!!

 I just liked the saying!!

Doug liked the fact that this restaurant had the
big windows open on the 2nd day of January!!

So, as you can see, it's a really pretty little town. We will get on the bikes tomorrow. The "loosely knit plan" is to ride back out to some of the wineries. Hopefully, after a few tastings, we will be able to ride back to the camp. Yes to the Mom's.....we will be careful!! It's only about 1-2 miles back down a pretty quiet road with "somewhat" of a bike lane"

From us flashy people to you all - have a great Friday!!

Peace!!

Thought for the day: You cannot hang out with negative people and expect to live a positive life.
