Did you miss us????

We went up to the cabin that my brother (Mark) and sister-in-law (Carmen) have up on Mable Lake in Enderby, BC. It is about 1 hour north of Vernon BC in what is perhaps, one of the most beautiful places in this fine province.

The "cabin" is a lovely 2 storey house. Mark & Carmen bought it when it was a little, one level cabin that was a converted hot dog stand. It needed a fair bit of work but Carmen quickly took over the decorating details and soon it had totally transformed into a sweet little spot. Recently, they had trouble with the foundation as it was rotting. They knew they had to prop it up and fix it so they decided to prop it up a bit more and now have a second floor. They are working on it slowly, when their schedules allow and it is really coming along so nice. We LOVE going there!!

We will do a little overview of the weekend. We did not post on the weekend as there was no internet at the cabin. Of course, you know me, that means that there will be LOTS of pictures!! The lake is 35 kms long and, at it's deepest point, it is 114 meters deep (about 365 ft)......that is DEEP!!!

Go to Enderby and turn right. Follow the road for about 1/2 hour.
This is some of the scenery on the way....

You have to ride his boat from this little marina dock, for about 60 seconds, to his dock
.....so water access only!!

View from the deck, down to their beach...

Nellie their dog, checks out the kitchen....

 Back of the cabin....

 ...I know, pretty nice, huh?

Pasta on the patio....

Love these weekends as we got up the next day (Saturday) and just hung out all day. Doug helped out with the pressure washing on the dock for a spell, Carmen and I both tried out their son, Daniel's, new fishing kayak....Sorry Daniel!!

 Nellie says...."Come on in..."

My sister from another mother...Carmen Konrad-Tamas and me!!

My brother Mark (from the same mother as me!!) and Doug

Beautiful Mable Lake.....

Mark looks like he is floating!!
Just a millisecond away from a splash!!

Did anyone tell Carmen how deep that water is???

Carmen tries her hand at kayaking!!

Working for our dinner....

Hanging out with Miss Nellie....

Okay, now I will try.....

He is STILL working at it!!

Looking back across the access area, where Euri is parked....

 Party on the dock time!!

Sunday was pack up day. We were out of the cabin by about 12:15 pm and were back at Mark & Carmen's house in the city in about 1 hour. It was fun to just change the location of the relaxing to the "city house". First though, supplies from the cabin comes back across in the little boat, including Miss Nellie....

Looking back towards their cabin....

Avast yee hearties!!!!

Okay, change the location of the relaxing.....

"What do you mean watch out behind me???"

Mr. Super Slider!!

This morning (Monday), we headed out from Vernon and went back to the Vancouver area via Falklands, Monte Creek, Kamloops and Cache Creek (among others) and then through the very scenic Fraser Canyon. About 30 years ago, the government put in a new highway, the Coquihalla (Hwy 5). It went up and over a mountainous range that had never had a highway before. It is a favourite of travellers as it really cuts down on the travel time from the interior of BC to the west coast. HOWEVER, there was already an existing highway, Hwy 1, the Trans-Canada Hwy. It follows along the Fraser River. It is now one of those lesser used highways now but many people still prefer it. It is twisty and turny and when it snows, many people still like it as it does not tend to get snowed in like the high Coquihalla one that goes way up and over the mountains. We love it. It takes a lot longer, but you see all the little towns along the way home.....

Coming into Falklands...

Old local restaurant in Falklands for breakfast. One of those "time has stood still"
ones that has the local old guys playing crib at the next table....

Now getting down onto Hwy 1....

Hard to believe that this highway once had ALL the traffic on it....

 ...just beautiful!!

I don't know about you all, but during all our travels, we tended to zoom by so many places and we would always say ...."We should stop there sometime" Well, "sometime" has arrived and it is time to stop and smell the roses!!

A little history lesson on this area....

It was a 10 minute walk down to Alexander Bridge....

 ...over the tracks...

 and here it is.....

The roaring Fraser River below us....

Cars used to go over this bridge in the 1926 era, but not now....

 Looking north up the river....

Yup, it is a long way down!!

 Looking south down the river...

Apparently Doug was already here??!!

This is for our friend, Jerry, in Nova Scotia....where YOU here too??"

There is actually a train that goes on this track!!

We actually dropped a loonie on this track and waited, like little kids, (well, me at least) for the train to come and run it over. We then spent 15 minutes looking for that darn coin and never did find it. I was a bit sad but we decided that one day, someone would find it and maybe they would keep it on them and it would become their "lucky" coin.....maybe change their life. Oh well, THAT is a long shot, but worth imagining, right?

Just because you have all been so good....a little "Gus" installment for you:

Yummy, watermelon!!!
Don't anyone even think about taking it away, either!!

Well, that is it. Hope you all had a great time as well. Talk soon!!

Cheers friends!!

  1. Nice we place we live in, actually. Maybe I should stop looking elsewhere, and just be content.

  2. Even more enticement for BC. Looks like you had a ball; and the scenery is spectacular. I'm getting closer to D day and am getting excited. I have to keep reminding myself that all does not have to be in its final spot in the RV. It's my home now; I can redo as I go. So, as soon as the house is done I'm free!!!!
