Things here at home

Not much to report. We try to get out each day (ahhemm....) for our mapped out, 5 km walk. (now that we are back here in Nanaimo, we can get back into that for sure!) Although we do LOVE our summer time and warmth, the fall colours are lovely and we enjoy our walk.

Now, that's a nice sitting bench!! Can you see it?

Those who know me know that I am not much of an adventurous cook. I do like baking, and since we are cooped up in the house, I found my way to the chocolate chip bag....some even made it into the famous Beglaw Cowboy cookies.....most went into the freezer.

Also, I follow a blog: http://Miss-Delish.com. Jill just recently finished a stint on Recipes to Riches. She was a finalist in the Pudding, Desserts category. She made it to the final 2 in her category. Unfortunately she just missed out by a smidge (we actually thought she should have won....but that's another story). She is a wonderful girl and you should all check out her blog. It is chock-a-block full of great eats, new twists on things. She is an amazing cook. Tonight I tried out the Oven Roasted Vegetable Quinoa with Crunchy Chickpeas. It is under the Oct 18th section. It was, in a word, AMAZING!!!!!!! Doug and I loved it and I already have plans to make it again and again, even when we are in Mexico. Check out her blog. You won't be disappointed!! Check this out. It turned out EXACTLY like the recipe shows.......

 Yumm, yumm - thanks Jill!!!

Anyway, on a full stomach, Beglaw checking out!! Talk to you all soon!!
Cheers!

Post Party Days (Part 2)

After all that excitement, we packed up, said our good-byes and headed back home to B.C. It is a pretty nice drive back through the mountains. The prairies are beautiful in their own way but give me the mountains, anytime! We made an overnight stop in Coldstream (near Vernon) at Mark & Carmen's place (my brother & sister-in-law)

Beautiful view from my brother & sister-in-law's house in Coldstream (near Vernon)

After that nice drive and overnight stop, it was time to hit the road again and get back to the lower mainland of Vancouver (Oct 10th). We took the Fraser Canyon route, the old Hwy 1. Most people take the lengendary Coquihalla but for us, this is a much nicer route in good weather, the proverbial "road less travelled"....

On route, it was lunch in the kitchy, Alpine Canyon Restaurant. Open 365 days a year, including Christmas. Apparently, they view everyone as family!!

The nice waitress playing cards in between waiting on customers...

Now, it's time to be in Nanaimo again!! See ya soon!!

Cheers!!

Post Party Days (Part 1)

On Sunday, Oct 7th, we took a trip down to the Medalta Pottery Museum. I have written about this before. Super cool spot to find out about the history of pottery/dishware in Medicine Hat. This dishware was used all over Canada, including on the railways so it was very important in the building and history of this city.

Some of the later kilns used here...

Original kiln, unearthed from under the floor. I believe it is about 120 years old!

Oct 6th- 90th Birthday Party

Well, that was a bit of an absence, wasn't it? I actually had to re-read my last posting to see what it is I needed to tell everyone!

First, the 90th Birthday party for Doug's Mom, Helen Beglaw, went great. She is an amazing lady. She looks great, enjoys every aspect of life and loves her family. We were just amazed by her stamina visiting with everyone, for days on end!

The very happy birthday girl!!

Our awesome kids, Teagan & Shawn and Josh & Kathy (plus mystery baby...)

The big, wild crowd!!

Hold it...this is definitely NON-regulation  cake cutting!!

Anyway, as you can see, it was a fun gathering for everyone, especially for Helen. We are very lucky to have such a vibrant, happy and loving person in our lives!!

Also, Doug and I would like to thank his sister and brother-in-law, Diane & Brian AND his brother and sister-in-law, Duane & Agnes for all their incredible efforts in doing all the planning and arranging for this party. They live in Medicine Hat so everything was done by them!! A BIG thanks guys!!
Cheers!!

Edmonton to Medicine Hat

We had a nice drive down to Medicine Hat. It takes a little better than 5 hours. We like to go the back roads (all paved, of course) down through the small towns of Viking, Hanna, Youngstown, picking up the Hwy 1 at Suffield. It puts us about 40 kms west of Medicine Hat so it makes a long, straight drive rather nice!

A bit foggy in the morning...

GPS shows the road is a "tad" straight!!

I love clouds.....

Yup...

...I mean, aren't they nice?!

Great Grandma Helen Beglaw, Grandpa Don Beglaw & little Mason Bucholtz. That's 3 of 4 generations. Don's son, Brandon, is away and couldn't be here with us. This little guy sure is cute!

Well, that's a road trip day. Not much happens but I still try and get some photos for sharing with allyou, our family and friends!

Tomorrow is the big 90th birthday bash for the above noted Great Grandma! Should have lots of pictures to share and should be tons of fun!!! See you later!

Cheers!!

Edmonton (Day 2)

After we packed up from our bed & breakfast, we headed out to Elk Island National Park. It is located approximately 30 kms east of Edmonton. We have been here several times when we visit with Teagan & Shawn and we love it. We are very proud to display our Parks Canada Annual pass. We are happy because we have an amazing parks system in Canada and we believe that we should support it. Again, if you have read our blog before you will have seen several postings about this great place. Guess what? There are B-I-S-O-N!!!!

This plaque was very interesting. Who ever thinks about the importance to wildlife, etc of dark night skies. How important it is for their hunting, rest, coverage, etc. and how
hard it is to find with the ever increasing sizes of our cities.....

This picture sums up this lovely park!!!

Well, it was another great day. I am sure my Mom enjoyed seeing this wonderful park. We tease her that this is yet another thing that she can cross off her "bucket-list".

We went to Teagan and Shawn's house for dinner tonight. We will see them again down in Medicine Hat on Saturday. Remember, we are heading down there tomorrow for Doug's Mom's 90th birthday on Saturday.

Another leg of the road trip tomorrow!

Cheers!!
