Tofino (Day 4)

Cloudy this morning, in fact all day. However, we did not let that deter us. It was actually quite nice once you poked your head out of the door. We started our morning off with, of course, coffee and Baileys and then a walk down the beach:

Quite a different look from yesterday's pictures, isn't it? Still it was nice...

Crystal Cove Resort is just south of Bella Pacifica. It is a really nice spot. Pretty landscaping. Some cabins and lots of RV spots (no tents allowed though). Still, we liked it. The facilities (washrooms, laundry, playground) were in superb condition. They even supply free firewood and complimentary coffee and WiFi (gotta love that):

I think the office dog was plastic, he never moved!!!

Pretty decent spacing between some of the spots...

Pretty nice spot. Cabins are, of course, pretty pricey. The camping spots are nice, although when we checked they were running about $55 per night.Yup, that is pricey, but cheaper than a hotel!! Check them out at www.crystalcove.ca

After that excursion, we rode our bikes to North Chesterman Beach. Our son, Josh, likes to surf here and it was really neat to see what is was all about. Check out those awesome bkes!!!

Welcome to North Chesterman beach....

Not too many surfers here....

Then, we rode our bikes to the south end of North Chesterman beach and then explored around a bit at Frank's Island. Sort of the divider between the north and south beaches....

Not much out there until you hit Japan!!!

Pretty rugged, fairly unforgiving. The sea giveth and the sea taketh away...

Within the sea's reach during stormy season....

These "timed self-portraits" are always pretty funny to do. Likely if you were watching us, you would think we were crazy! In the one below, I had it all lined up, set the timer and got up to run over to Doug and the camera was still attached to my wrist. I thought he was going to fall over laughing. Now, come on, some of you MUST have done the same thing too!!

Anyway, after all that, we rode off to South Chesterman Beach. There were a few more surfers there....

A few more brave souls here...

Next beach, just south of South Chesterman is Cox Bay. We have heard alot about this spot over the years as my sister, Julie, and her family often went here for storm watching. We can see why and we will look forward to doing some of the same in the coming months!!

Really long, cool boardwalk to get you from the parking lot to Cox Bay beach.

The waves here were the best we saw today...

I just love little coves like this one....

Lastly, it was back "home" where we enjoyed yet another few cocktails on the beach. It got a bit cool so we headed back up to the van. tomorrow we will leave this lovely place and make our way back over towards Miracle Beach....Stay tuned!!

One thing we would like to mention again is the bike paths. They stretch for a long way between all these great beaches and right up to Tofino. Alongside the main highway but separated by the berm of grasses and ditches, they are fantastic. Because of these paths and their ease in use, we figured that in the last two days we cylcled 8 kms on Friday and about 10 kms today. Way to go Tofino!!!

Oh, by the way, don't forget to hose the sand off everything...really, I mean it!!!

Cheers!!
